Excubia in the Cloud BY Bryan Reaves, CTO

At the onset of our development process for Excubia, we knew there was only one worthy home for our platform: the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. AWS has been an unquestionable market leader with respect to the development of cloud computing and AWS has continued to outstrip the competition with respect to innovation and performance. Cloud computing has, in general, been transformative with respect to the consumption of IT resources. The AWS cloud offers an outstanding level of service and reliability in addition to providing the ability to significantly enhance access control over network resources.

One of the outstanding features of AWS in contrast to traditional deployment models is single tenancy. Under this deployment model, which we utilize for all of our clients, each installation is independent and distinct from all others. Your software is deployed in a dedicated instance and effectively exists in an entirely separate system from all other clients, meaning your data is isolated and cannot be co-mingled with information from other clients. In the unlikely event of a data breach, this also provides a substantially greater degree of resource isolation compared to a traditional data center breach in which extensive exposure may occur.

If you’d like to learn more about AWS and cloud computing, Amazon has some great information on their site that provides a good overview of AWS and its structure: https://aws.amazon.com/what-is-aws/. If you’re still not comfortable with AWS, I’d recommend reviewing the other entities that extensively utilize this platform, including many Fortune 500 corporations like Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and Comcast. In fact, AWS is so widely utilized by the federal government, including federal financial regulators, that Amazon has developed a specific GovCloud region in AWS solely for use by the United States government and federal contractors: http://docs.aws.amazon.com/govcloud-us/latest/UserGuide/whatis.html.
